I understand your saying you doubt page splitter is the culprit. I think it very well may explain the extra pages. Length of page ought to be driving the convert. It feels as if length of page is not driving the converter. I do not understand this any more than you do.

I am saying that the choices you make under settings and then under convert will govern what k1000 v. 11 does. There are settings for how it opens various file types (rtf brl and text) and how kurzweil saves the files. Having page break enabled in these settings causes k1000 to add extra page breaks when you 
1. work on a file in rtf in kurzweil
2. close kurzweil
and
3. reopen kurzweil and go back into the file.
The default setting in v. 11 is to enable page splitting. I am saying I had to disable those settings and have only now realized the need.

Could you please explain what this problem is in more detail and why using the Save As option is not sufficient for saving kes files as rtf.

The part I missed is it is necessary to set the split page option choice for each of the three formats. How I missed it I do not know. Stephen cleared up my confusion. Now I am wondering how many books I validated have the double page break issue. The default is probably on in other people's kurzweil version 11 as well so be warned.
