Evan's message reminds me that I almost never use the apply correction tool in k1000. It doesn't tell you which "corrections" are being corrected and it may correct something that doesn't need correcting.
However, it does do a good job of dealing with split words.I would be interested in what others do with this particular tool. Maybe I could use it with less trepidation.

The OCR software may remove the hyphens. I recall that the last book I scanned with K1000 had a few words split between pages, but the hyphens had been removed from the end of the part of the word on the first page. The software is able to correct words split between lines and remove the hyphens and join the word parts, so perhaps it's a bug that causes it to remove the hyphens at the end of the word part at the end of a page. Whatever the reason, I noticed that they were not there, even though they were in the book.Evan----- Original Message ----- From: "Cindy Rosenthal" <popularplace@xxxxxxxxx>To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2008 3:13 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: ValidationNo hyphens? Really? I've seen a lot of books where words are split between two pages but not without hyphens. Unfortunately, as someone pointed out, there's no way to do it automatically because you don't know what the other half of the word is.Wait--you said you're validating the book. I'll bet the submitter globally deleted the hyphens at the ends of lines--perhaps all hyphens. Do you have words that are combines that actually should be hyphenated? I've validated books here that has been the case, e.g., two-year-old has become twoyearold.Cindy --- On Fri, 11/14/08, Nimer <nimerjaber1@xxxxxxxxx> wrote:From: Nimer <nimerjaber1@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Validation To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Friday, November 14, 2008, 7:14 There are no hyphens. The way the book is, books are split up. For instance, one half of a word is on the bottom of one page, and the second half of the word is on the top of the next page. If that's the case with every page and you'd basically have to rewrite the book, sadly, you should probably reject it. > Christina > > ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nimer" <nimerjaber1@xxxxxxxxx> > To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> > Sent: Friday, November 14, 2008 9:54 PM > Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Validation > > >> Hello, >> I am currently validating a long book where words are split over two pages. Is there a way to make the words onto one page without going through and changing every one of them individually? This is a 400-page book, and while I'm reading it through, it takes too long to stop after every page to combine a word that was split onto different pages. >> >> Thanks >> Nimer J >> To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to >> bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >> put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
