Dear Jackie,

You have lots of company. Several of us take our time validating, both checking
every detail and enjoying every word of the content. We take care formatting
indexes and appendices and check spellings of words the spell checkers never
dreamed of, just like you. Some scanners are perfectionists, too. A few use
opticons to verify details with the print text. I wish I'd learned to use an
option and wish they were still being made. Others of us ask Grandma Cindy
rather than settle for guessing when the words and accents are truly baffling.

Every day since I started volunteering I'm thankful that Bookshare gives us
latitude to accomplish our tasks each in our unique style. Even though my
validations take a while, I'm loving the reading as I go and feel the authors
and subscribers will appreciate accurate text and smooth reads.

As long as you don't abandon your projects, it's o k to relax and find your own
stride. There's always going to be volunteers who work faster and slower than
you. Good books in the collection are the goal.

It takes all kinds of volunteers to stock a library.

Always with love,

Lissi

  Monica,

How do you get through the validations so fast? Do you spell-check, or do
you assume that if it says "excellent" quality, it is? I must be too much a
perfectionist, because it takes me quite a long time to do a book. I tend to
make the indexes and bibliographies start each new entry at the margin, etc.
So would you write me off-list and tell me how you validate so fast? I would
appreciate it.
