Dear Sarah,
You are so canny! You must have been a ladybug on the wall to have perceived
my primary problem so accurately. I understand the gist of your message,
enough to know you are right on. It was all about the fact I somehow trapped
my RTF file in a zip file and even though I could find and open the RTF to
work on it and save the changes, bookshare couldn't find it. I have some
studying to do before I prevent myself from repeating my filing mistake, but
Gerald gave me some pointers and I hope to make the most of them.
It's nice of you to keep tabs on my convoluted first upload. You have a
generous nature to care about other tangles than your own.
I was sorry when Patti got frustrated with the complications of her first
attempt and decided to try again at a later time. I was determined, no
matter how many questions and attempts I'd need, not to give up. Validating
for bookshare is like my dream job!
I'm in the middle of my second book which I also saved incorrectly, but,
believe me, I won't start the third until I have it in my documents with a
.rtf instead of a .zip.
Always With Love,
Lissi

Fortunately, the problem is solved and congratulations to validator and
helper. :-) I am just curious if the problem was what I suspect it might
have been. It sounds like the corrected RTF file might have remained in
it's zipped state for the entire process. If that was the case then the
RTF would never be visible in the list of files in the directory. The
zipped file would have had to been chosen for upload even though RTF was
the file type chosen. Most of the time zip programs have you unzip files
before you open them, but I know it is possible to open and resave files
without ever unzipping them. It just depends on the software you have.
Of course my guess about the problem might be entirely incorrect, but I
thought it might be helpful sometime in the future to know what can
confuse the upload process.
