I was just thinking it could be like someone sneezing huh chew but instead of huh chew, it could be the holiday, LOL!
----------------"If you go without playing the trumpet for one day, no one knows, two days, only you know, and more than three days without practicing, girl you better look out, because everyone will know!" Today, I find myself constantly saying those words, just to get myself going, to not give up, and it works. Since I learned to play the trumpet at the tender age of 10, I have spent so much passion and much diligence with that instrument that I will not give up on it. Sometimes my instrument puts me into awkward situations where I feel like they won't ever end, but the trumpet gives me a lot of hope with the majestic, crystal-clear sound it brings to my ears.

Hi, Ann, I'd describe it in a cruder fashion by saying that the guttural sound in Chanukkah is like somebody preparing to hock up or spit something in the throat. Yeah, I know it sounds rotten, but there you have it. Regards, Kim. -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ann Parsons Sent: Monday, December 14, 2009 5:12 AM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: from Cindy Hi all, Sue, I am sure that you'll get answers from those in the know about this, but I understand that it depends on whether you are a European Jew, a Sephardi(sp) Jew, and what language has filtered the spelling of the holiday's name. Add to that the fact that written Hebrew has no vowels in it, only markings that approximate the vowel you need, and you've got arecipe for multiple spellings of Hebrew words which have been transliteratedinto whatever language. I tend to use Chanukah because that, for me, approximates the pronunciation I hear. The ch indicates that glottal Hsound that is like clearing the throat. Hmmm, it's really hard to describeit. <smiling> It's sort of like people trying to describe yellow to me. Anyway, there are a million ways to spell Chanukah, all are right. Does that help, or does the maunderings of this goy just muddy the waters? Ann P. P.S., Goy = gentile. A.P. -- Ann K.
