G Cindy I agree. I can think of a series where to me I wouldn't consider it adult and That is the Calder series, the sex isn't that graphic, now the book I am scanning by Rosemary Rogers, it is verry graphic which involves rape, Sweet Savage Love, some of the scenes are graphic and I don't like violence against women so it is taking a little time to get through plus the book is 23 years old and is the hard cover edition. So the pages must be a little yellowed.

It is true that the system has been in place since the beginning, but you point out here problems that exist. For as long as I can remember, people have been asking what exactly should be rated "Adult." Knowing that there are members who do not like to read books with profanity and/or obscenity and/or graphic violence, some of us rated these Adult. Then we receive word from several official sources that that if the book would be in an Adult bookstore or in the Adult section of a video rental place, that should be the criterion. To me, that says that only books with graphically described sex would be considered Adult. I think Kelby's idea of being more specific in the synopsis about whether there is profanity, obscenity, graphic violence, rape, torture, explicit sex is a good one. That way a would-be reader would know if he/she wants to read the book or not, or wants to allow his teenager to read the book. I've been doing that rather than rating books Adult, unless there is explicit sex. Or perhaps instead of a general Adult rating we could use the movie ratings--G, PG (is that right?), R and X. But still not disallow access to the books, i.e., allow everyone to find a book whether hey remember to log in or not. G.Cindy P.S. What is there in the Ann Coulter books that cause them to be rated Adult? Curious minds want to know. P.P.S. There's something wrong with the BS automatic rating if children's picture books are rated Adult, as some of them have been. --- robert tweedy <roberttweedy@xxxxxxx> wrote:The system has been in place since bookshare started and now there are a lot of readers that don't like adult matterial and it is up to the submitter whether the book should be adult or not plus if the system see a lot of words that are consider, a certain percentage anyway it makes the book adult.
