I used to place the book jacket info near the beginning for much the same
reason as outlined by Gary.
Eventually, I
followed the approach followed by Shelley and Jana and placing them at the
back end of the package.
My reasoning is that it serves as a notice, both to the reader and
validater, that the book is complete and over.
Both approaches make sense and it is probably 6 of one or half a dozen of
the other.
