[bksvol-discuss] Re: copyright validation

Dear Shelley and Volunteers,

I'm glad you have had good experience getting books approved with copyrights owned by other persons, trusts, or companies than the author. Many of my Celtic books have copyright information that differs from what we normally find.

Always With Love,

Lissi

actually I have had several books where the publisher held the copyright,
approved no questions asked.

So.... smile.

Actually a lot of children's books are copyrighted by the publisher.

Sarah,

Here is the copyright information for The Lord of the Silent. The reason
you didn't find it in the U.S. Copyright Office's database is because
someone misspelled silent. The l and i are transposed.

According to their records, the copyright holder is MPM Manor, Inc., and the
copyright date is 2001.

This message should be proof enough for Gustavo, but be sure to include the
record below from the U.S. Copyright Office.

Grrr. I am so sick of copyright questions. I am also sick of not finding entries for the books I submit in the U.S. Copyright Office records. The records are woefully incomplete.

This is what I did find, and it sure convinces me, but I don't know how
best to convey the information to Gustavo. The book Lord of the Silent only
shows a copyright record for the recorded addition, but that proves that a
book with that title was written by Elizabeth Peters in 2001. The copyright
is different from what is in the printed book, though, which is perfectly
normal. In order to prove that MPM Manor, Inc. is a copyright holder of
many of her books I looked for records with MPM Manor, Inc. as the
claimant. I found ten records. The names listed for authors of those books
seemed all to be pseudonyms of the same author and Elizabeth Peters is one
of the names she uses. I think that combined with the fact that the same
copyright information appears on the submit form and in the book itself
should be enough to get it accepted.

Go ahead and copy my message into the comment field if you think it will
help.

I notice that Lord of the Silent is back on step 2 and so is The Abortion
Myth. Both ask that copyright be validated. I kept that note about The
Abortion Myth checking its copyright. Have no idea about what is going on
with copyright issue for Lord of the Silent. Could someone find out?
Seemed fine to me when I uploaded it after validating. I will send
Gustavo a note about The Myth ... later today.
