The list archives are public, but at least, Freelists does remove the domain name associated with one's email address (actually, any email address found in the message), substituting x's for every letter of the domain, in them (i.e., my email address would be shown as maria6289@xxxxxxxxxxxxx). Not eliminating the possibility of someone being able to find one's email address by Googling-I've seen mine on other public list archives where the list managing service does not strip the domains-but at least, Freelists does something to decrease the likelihood that one's email address will be found through one of their lists.
