Hello Elizabeth,
Keeping in mind the strange names this authors uses, if books are this terrible, why anyone would want to even attempt to fix them up is beyond me.

This goes back to my previous message, volunteers need to not be squeamish and take the easy way and release rather than reject.

From what it sounds like, I hope you rejected them.

Jake

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] comments on poor quality books

Several books by the author Brian Jacques have recently been submitted to step 1. I am going to use these books as a example of the kind of thing which keeps the step 1 list clogged and generally slows down things. The books I downloaded had a rating of between 94 and 97 percent accuracy with capitalization turned off. That is a pretty poor rating and deserves a re-scan. The comment I want to make is about the history of these books. Each had been downloaded from step 1 at least three times by various volunteers, held for a couple of weeks each and then released back to step 1. Folks, books of this quality either need to be rejected immediately or need a volunteer willing to do lots and lots and lots of work to fix up these scans in which case the volunteer ought to hold on to the book and dilligently fix it up, not release such a poor quality book back to step 1. This is a personal opinion.

E.
