Tracy,

You have to select the text which you want the British spell checker to
check then go into the Set Language box and specify it as British. If you
don't select any text, then all you've done is specify that the text you're
about to insert at the cursor is British, so if you don't type anything then
you don't wind up with any text marked as British.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] changing dictionaries in Word

It would be really nice to be able to switch dictionaries in Word, for
instance, from American English to British English, so spell-checker
wouldn't find errors that aren't errors. I have tried switching the
language under the language menu, but it doesn't stick; it switches right
back to American English. Does anyone know how to switch to British
spelling dictionaries for spell-checking a book?
