I'm afraid the answer to that is that many submitters don't read their submissions that carefully. ----- Original Message ----- From: "robert tweedy" <roberttweedy@xxxxxxx>

Why don't the submitter just fix these errors as they hear them?

As I also pointed out you really have to search for each and every occurance of "die" because the combinations I listed simply do not catch a lot of occurances of "die" which ought to be "the". I believe that a book containing a lot of "die" for "the" ought to be rejected by a validator most of the time. The problem is just too big to validate easily.

dieater
dieatre
dieory
dieorem
dieology
weadier
whedier
and on and on.

The submitter needs to read a few pages at various places in the book to make sure di for th is fixed throughout the book by fixing the brightness settings at the beginning of the scan. Without doing this the validator is left with so much work that the book is often a nightmare to fix up.

Usually di for th occurs in scans where 1 replaces I as in "1 have" and there are other errors such as widdi for with widdiout for without and on and on and on.

If the validator's name appeared along with the submitters when a book entered the collection the validator and scanner might feel more ownership and pride in a job well done. Also, the rest of us will be easily able to tell who is doing the kind of "jiffy validating" resulting in books getting into the collection in such poor shape.

What a shame to bso a book so newly added to the collection!!
