Jill,

A lot of us are like you and only take books we are
willing to read or that sound interesting. I've taken
a couple that didn't turn out to be so interesting; in
the case of one fiction book, I ended up getting
involved anyway, and after basically skimming the
pages and spell-checking to start, I got engrossed in
the story and went back and read it more carefully. My
skimming had caught most of the errors, though.

There were two books, though, that I just couldn't
read word for word, but I did skim each page and do a
spell-check. They were long and scholarly, both in
content and in style. Other nonfiction books I have
read carefully, but they've been written in a more
interesting way and without a lot of jargon.
