Dear Gerald, PP, Cindy and Everyone,
Ok, Gerald, you did help and I'll let the tools have their way with, The
Dying of the Light, and upload it now.
PP, In the options menu when I instructed the white text to become black, it
turned the text the color of the background so the whole screen became solid
black. I couldn't find a place to tell it to make the background white. This
situation only occurred with the cover material, so the content of the book
isn't at risk, and it sounds as if the tools aren't going to be troubled by
the problem anyway. It will be interesting to download the book when it's
approved to see how the cover material comes out. I think the tools will
actually improve the formatting in this situation.
Cindy, The volunteer who Scanned this book did a remarkable job because the
back cover is shiny gold with white print I can't read at all. I can't
imagine how many settings adjustments it took to get such a perfect scan.
This story isn't supernatural, but it does have a Twilight Zone feeling, or
Maybe it's more Alfred Hitchcockian. It's senior care gone amok.
Always with love,
Lissi

Lissi,
Don't worry about it. I've never paid any attention to what happens
colorwise, but I suspect that the color attributes in the RTF files are
stripped when converting to DAISY. Whether they are or not, the tools
should
handle them just fine.
HTH

Dear Booksharian Friends,
To be safe, before I upload one of the darkest, misery filled mysteries
I've
ever read, a British one that is touted to be funny and capable of
shocking
the unshockable, I have a question.3 sections of text in the cover
information
have white print on black background. After Exploring the menus, and
experimenting, I haven't been able to tell Microsoft Word 2003 with Jaws
how
to convert these sections to match the rest of the book. It sounds fine,
so
does it matter? Do you think the tools wwill be confused?
My hunch is that the answer to this question is no, and that I can upload
the RTF file as it is, a superior scan carefully validated, but I'd rather
ask than risk snagging this book on a technicality.
In case you are interested in reading it, The book is The Dying of the
Light
by Michael Dibdin, author of the Aurelio Zen mysteries. It's cleverly
conceived and written so you may feel as if you were seeing it as a play.
It's only 150 pages long. The first half creeped me out and then I thought
I
deserved to kick myself for being amused by the last half. The plot twists
are definitely inventive in this bizarre, take on a British country
mansion
who done it. Be warned, it isn't cozy!
Thanks for your suggestions.
Always with love,
Lissi
