I agree. Keeping up with this list has to be a mammoth job.

I hope that someday Bookshare engineers have time to create a searchable
database where a person can submit the name of the book and check a box such as
: wish request; scanning, submitting or even proofing. This would be part of
the books in processing. Then a person could do one search and find out the
status of a book.

I know this is just a hope would be work for the engineers and could
definitely be fine-tuned beyond my untechnical explanation. But I do think
it's a shame that someone has to search so many lists to figure out if a book
is somewhere in the Bookshare system and that someone has to do so much work to
keep the current lists updated. Cindy, you have no idea how much you are
appreciated.

  Lori C.

    Hi all,

I haven't really participated in this thread, but I am going to toss in my
$.02. Cindy works very hard to put this list together, and keep it updated. I
think that we should think carefully before making this any harder for her.
Cindy, you do a great job, and we all appreciate your work. I would say, just
do this in the way that's easiest for you.
    Best,
    Donna

the list

Bob, I started to do that. and I put a sort of heading:title, autho,
scanner or processor, froofread.I think it's a good idea, but some of the
titles are so long, that the other sections dn't fit under the headings. I can,
and started to, put the heading above the line. We'll see how ir works out,
i.e., what the reaction is, when I post the list tonight

            Hi Cindy.
If you could separate the fields (author, title, scannor, and
proofer) with tabs instead of spaces then those who wanted to use a spreadsheet
could easily convert the file. Also, it would be fairly easy to sort the
various fields such as title thus making it easier to look for duplicates, or
for people trying to see what they are down for scanning.

I don't know how much trouble that would be but if it could be done
I think it would make for a neat tool.

            Just a suggestion.
            Bob

                    Mayrie and Jamie

I think what I'm going to do is work on the list, a
little at a time, as I have time between proofing and appts and other stuff.
I'll work in Word (rtf) and double-space between entries. Book title, author,
scanner and if someone has said they want to proof, proofer will be on one
line.
Maybe after I get rid of duplications ll will be well and
the html I attach to send to Pavi won't be too large. It was sending both the
being-scanned and wish list at the same time that caused the problem. If it
turns out to be too large I'll change it to html and save as txt and sent
it.Jamie and I tested it out, and I think hat ill work.

In the meantme, I'll continue to post updates as they
occur.

Someone asked how to search the list. Just do a Find for
the title or author of the book you're considering scanning and you'll be taken
to it on the list and will also see, at the end of that line, who's scanning it
(some people like to proof books scanned by particular people--you'll also if
somone has asked to proofread it

                      HI Cindy,

The more I think about the size of your list, I see
how much space it would save not having blank lines between entries. I
respectfully withdraw my request for blank lines between entries. They look
nice, but they do take up space, and are not necessary if every
title/author/scanner is on a line together and only one book per line.

                      Mayrie

If I can set myself to try to something new (not
saying I will--I may just stick to Word and skipping lines between entries (at
the age of 73, surely you can, Roger. I took a look at my document with the htm
symbols instead of words, lines and spaces and it's not pretty. smile

Well, if it comes to learning how to do something
then I suppose I do a better job of learning it by doing it myself, but that
doesn't mean that a better job is a good job. That's a hell of a position to be
in, knowing all kinds of things, but not being able to do a damned thing.

I am just the opposite. Chem and bio labs were
great for me. Lecture was a nightmare. I have to do it to learn it. I can't
just listen and learn or read

replace the darned thing in Open Office).
