Hi. This is a valid concern and I have noticed this too. What I do is
make a note in the long synopsis and comments pointing out the
problem. Policy says that if the novel can be followed or if it is mostly
readable, it should be accepted. It does not say that you have to agree
with the automated software rating. On really good scans with lots of
words missing, I knock the rating down to fair and hope it will eventually
be rescanned. Probably if words are consistently missing it should be
rejected. If you find books like this, they should go to the bookshare
scans page so hopefully someone will rescan them.

If Bookshare can't help with this problem, the scanner should certainly be reading the scanned book and correcting the problem. The sad thing is, of course, that the validator often doesn't know what the missing words are either.
