[bksvol-discuss] Re: apostrophes and single quotes in openbook

Scott,

In print, a quote is a double quote while a single quote is an apostrophe.
Therefore, single quote is the same as apostrophe.

Hey Shannon,

Yeah, I tried that route and when I converted to .rtf, I still had what
appeared, at least to the screen reader, to be spaces where the apostrophes
should be. Interesting thing is, when I'm in Openbook and I press the
apostrophe key, Openbook says single quote. So I physically had to select
an apostrophe from a word processing document and paste it into the
find/replace dialog box of Openbook. But no, it still didn't seem to work.

Thank you for the idea and I'll be glad to hear any others you might have.

Scott

Scott,

I am sorry that I don't have open book so this may not work but have you
tried to do a search for the single quotes and replace them with apostrophes
before converting to rtf?

It may be a long shot. I just thought I would throw it out there.

HTH sorry if not.

Shannon

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] apostrophes and single quotes in openbook

Hey folks,
I posed a question the other day and didn't get any response, so I'm going
to ask something very similar but with a bit of a change. I'm trying to
clean
up a book to be approved, and the book is an Openbook .ark file. Openbook
seems to recognize apostrophes as "single quotes". When I translate the
.ark
file into .rtf per the instructions on Bookshare, the single quotes
disappear, leaving a single space between letters. For example, the word
let's becomes
let s. So, I can't do a find and replace to get things right. How do I
remedy this problem?
