[bksvol-discuss] Re: Your Suggestions for Books to Add to the Collection

I recently looked at the most popular list as well and had the same thought. When I used to look at it a year ago I'd see some of the new best sellers at the top, but now it seems clear that that books asigned in the classrooms are driving the list. Therefore it doesn't have much value any more as far as I can see.

I had to read The Giver in school, so yes, they're probably still assigning it.

To get the most downloaded books in the last month in the order of their popularity just click on the link that leads you to the most popular. The sort order you see is from most popular to least popular. Choosing another sort order will mess that up and to get that order again you will have to close the page and click the link to it again. As for having a hard time believing that certain titles are number one or even in the top 100 at all, I had that reaction too when this sort order for the most popular list was first started. At that time the title at the top of the list was " Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus." However, if you look down the list you will see a lot of titles that count as classics or Literature with a capital L, that is, books that English teachers like. That tells me that inclusion on the most popular list tends to be driven by classroom assignment. I suspect that if all Bookshare subscribers were given their heads the most popular list would look considerably different. I don't know anything about "The Giver," but if it seems unlikely to be that popular to you I would suspect that for whatever reason it is currently being assigned in classrooms.

Roger what sort order are you picking to get the most 100 downloaded books
to come up first? I have a hard time believing that "The Giver" is the most
downloaded book in the past 30 days. My sort order default is "by title".
The other choices are "by author", "by date added" or "by copyright date".
