HI Lora, I do appreciate when people introduce themselves and tell me there name. IT usually doesn't take too long to catch on to a voice though. When I first started here at the university there was one guy I cold now probably recognize anywhere. IT was always.... Bill Fouse here! I kind of miss seeing him since I am not up on the hill these days. What kind of tech work do you do? Some people, when they approach me at work, will tell me their names. For instance, I had two coworkers approach me yesterday that I rarely speak to, and they had a question I needed to answer. They told me who they were, then asked their question and I answered it. I appreciate this courtesy, and wonder if others do as well. I work in a building with several hundred people. Anyone I speak to regularly I recognize, but I know that I don't know everyone. My job requires that I interact with people frequently, as answering technical questions is one of my assigned tasks. If they tell me their name, I don't have to ask, which is good, because I usually have to identify them if I write up a trouble ticket. On the flip side, for those who don't identify themselves, I do find that I need to ask their names on occasion. I hate this, because some people get hurt if I've spoken with them once before, and they think I should recognize them this time around. Nonetheless, I will ask, because it's important to my job to be able to identify the customer. Now friends and teammates, and managers in the building, and others that I talk to regularly, don't introduce themselves, and that's fine. I have a keen ear for voices. It's just that there are too many people for me to identify them all.
