Hi, everybody,
I think for starters, that each of us who is seriously concerned about the
stripper (and judging from this list, I believe our numbers are significant)
should write individually to Gustavo, Janice Carter, Jim Fruchterman, and
other members of the Bookshare staff. We should deluge them with mail on
this topic and insist on an immediate, focused response. We should make it
absolutely clear that we want them to stop running the stripper at once.
If this strategy doesn't get results, I think we will have to take stronger
steps, i.e., stop submitting and validating books until we are heard. I
fear I sound like a rabble-rouser, but I just don't know what other leverage
we have. It is tragic that these books are being needlessly and deliberately
damaged. Because of the stripper, the Bookshare collection is far less
valuable than it could be. Print page numbers are critically important to
students, researchers, teachers and tutors, even parents helping their kids
with homework - it's impossible to list all the situations in which this
information is necessary! And EVERYONE wants chapter headings! ... Okay,
I know I'm preaching to the choir. Who is ready and willing to mount a
letter-writing campaign?
