Hi Monica,
If you're travelling via car, you can by a universal car adapter, that is
also known as a 12 volt to 110 volt power inverter, that converts DC to AC
and will plug into the cigarette lighter on one end and your laptop on the
other. You won't have to run down your battery at all. This can be found
at most department stores including Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, specialty
shops such as Radio Shack and so forth. Best Buy has them in the 25 to 100
dollar range based on the power output. You need to match the power
consumption of your laptop to the inverter used (keeping to the minimum that
you need will prevent blown fuses in the car), and the personnel at Best Buy
would be able to help you find the correct model.

HTH, and my best to your family. BTW, we've used one for several years.

Hi, Darrell. I don't have a notetaker, and that's why I've been asking about
the laptop. Mine is a 5-year old Dell, and I'll have to get my daughter to
help me find the model number. I may end up taking it to an electronics
store tomorrow and looking for something there. If nothing else, maybe I'll
buy an extra battery for it if they carry one that will work. Thanks for
your help.
