Oh, man, I am so different from you on this one, Roger, when it
comes to wanting to read new novels by certain authors! grin.
Every year I can't wait to get the latest Dick Francis mystery.
Anyone who interferes with trivial things--like telling me the
house is burning down--while I'm reading it will get their head
bitten off for interrupting what's really important: indulging my
decadent pleasure in a new Francis novel! chuckle.

Your current interpretation is essentially correct, but I will add that
I used the word shallow to explain why I do not do something and I was
most certainly not using it to point fingers at anyone. I was also not
criticising anyone's choice of books. This latest Dan Brown book, in
fact, is one that I think I might like to try out too. At least I want
to get around to reading some Dan Brown book because I haven't read any
of them yet. I was just perplexed that so many people want to read it
right now this minute and just can't wait. There are some books that
are, of course, time sensitive like a textbook for a class that one is
taking right now, but I do not see the hurry for just another novel.
Mind you, it is fine with me if someone is in a hurry for it; I just
don't understand the hurry.
