Your current interpretation is essentially correct, but I will add that I
used the word shallow to explain why I do not do something and I was most
certainly not using it to point fingers at anyone. I was also not criticising
anyone's choice of books. This latest Dan Brown book, in fact, is one that I
think I might like to try out too. At least I want to get around to reading
some Dan Brown book because I haven't read any of them yet. I was just
perplexed that so many people want to read it right now this minute and just
can't wait. There are some books that are, of course, time sensitive like a
textbook for a class that one is taking right now, but I do not see the hurry
for just another novel. Mind you, it is fine with me if someone is in a hurry
for it; I just don't understand the hurry.

Hey Roger, you actually did come across to me too in your musings
as sounding as if people who read best sellers are shallow, when
I first read your post.  I think what you were saying, though, on
re-reading your email, is that if someone reads a book just
because (and only because) everyone else is reading it, that does
feel like they are shallow to you.

What I think what everyone else has said is that they are reading
this book because they want to read it, and not just because
everyone else is reading it.  It piques their interest, and it's
a huge plus to be able to concurrently talk about it with friends
who are also reading it instead of not having that option
available in the past as it used to take months or years to have
an accessible version of a book (any book) available after print
publication.

For what it's worth, that's my interpretation of this thread! grin.
