[bksvol-discuss] The Available RTF, WAS: Re: Re: The Garden of Ruth -- updated version

Hi Roger!

Yes, I know the rtf file is available, but I like to keep an untouched copy on my hard drive, because it's possible I could muff a file if I were to work on the original, which I don't, and then the web site could be down for maintenance or, for some strange reason, I couldn't log in the other night. First I thought that I had really typed my e-mail address or password incorrectly as the message said, but I typed it again very carefully and was still unable to log on, when everything was fine the next morning, so that is why many of us like to keep the downloaded copy untouched, so it is always available.

Are you aware that you can go to your checked out books page and click the RTF link to download another copy of the original any time you want?

Ann, I usually put proofing copy in the name of the file I'm working on and leave the other as is. I always keep the original as well. I just find it easier. You never know when something might happen and you need it.

Hi all,

Doug, no problem, I always keep my original download file as a separate thing, and save it under a new name for revision. In my case it's easy because I'm working with folks who hold books for me, and so I leave the hold-for in the filename of the original and put the actual book title as the revised file. That way I both have the original file if I mung anything beyond repair, and a different filename so I know which file is who. I haven't decided what to do about books I just download from the check list without holds, but I'll figure out something, maybe an R in the filename.

Have a great day. Glad you got the thing fixed.
