I did a little of both, but I was working on an 800 plus page document and I spent literally hours one evening doing nothing but adding or ignoring words, it actually took longer to run a spell check than it did to read most of the book. If you didn't want to do that, you could simply use ignore all when you come to one of those words and then go to the apply function and see your ranked spelling improve. Also you can simply go down the list of words Kurzweil says are misspelled and do nothing so at least you know they are not words that need correcting. Since I don't use Word I can't make a comparison. I really admire you for making such books available. I was a medical transcriber for some 25 years and don't know what I would have done without my Braille Dorland's dictionary. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rose Combs" <rosecombs@xxxxxxxxx> To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, October 01, 2005 10:46 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Social Bodies Well, if my version of K1000 version 10 would arrive, maybe I could use it, kind of difficult to use the newest when it has not been shipped. BTW, maybe I just don't get the rank spelling. When I did the huge nursing book on physical examinations last summer, I found doing rank spelling or indeed even regular spell checking was almost impossible. I had to do it in sections in Word, but then, K1000 doesn't have a medical word speller and Word on my computer does. I gave up on rank spelling because it seemed like I was getting nowhere with it, which could be my lack of understanding of the nature of it or that because it did not have access to medical words it was faulty for the type of editing I was trying to accomplish. I have books on my computer now that I want to submit to Bookshare but all the messages that have been flying about, and some of the really harsh ones have made me think that they will just stay on my computer for my use only. I got reasonable scans but there are some issues I am waiting for version 10 to fix regarding tables that were not tables. I guess the reason I keep mentioning the newest version of k1000 is that the tools it includes are just as important as the scanning ability particularly to us validatinors. That is the reason k1000 is so useful. They know their product is not just being used by the individual but by groups to prepare books. E.
