Christina, this is definitely a keeper. Thanks for the info.

Hi, Shannon.
Yep, replacing smart quotes with regular quotes is very easy if you have Word. You go into the search and replace function by hitting the control key and the letter h. In the search for section, type in a ^ I.E. shift and the number six and 0147 This is the code for the opening smart quote. In the replace with section, type in ^0034 which is the code for a regular quote. Hit replace all. Then, do the same thing again, only instead of ^0147 in the search for box, type in ^0148 which is the code for the closing smart quote.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Christina

So I have this lovely book that I am proofing. It is making me happy because it's cute and funny and I know there are people who are going to love it. But the book history page says that the smart quotes were not removed.

Er... How do I do that? And can I replace them with... I don't know... non-smart quotes? Mentally challenged quotes? Something? If it helps, I have Word 2005, I think. Um, the one before the latest version of Word.

Thanks in advance,

Shannon C.
