The ads might not be required, but they would be a bear to get rid of. In
fact, magazines in general are laid out entirely differently from books.
They may have columns; they may have advertising inserted in the middle of
articles; they may have articles that are split and continued in various
parts of the magazine. All in all, the editing job could be rather daunting.

None of the NLS magazines I receive have advertisements, so I would 
assume that the ads wouldn't be required, As you say, though, they would 
definitely be more complicated all around.
