hi allison, if no one else has offered to take the books off your hands, I'd be glad to do it. since Winter is coming up, I will have lots of free time on my hands, and this sounds like it could be an interesting project. ----- Original Message ----- From: Allison To: Volunteer List Cc: bookshare-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ; Peter Scialli Sent: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 5:31 PM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Scanners for Kids Books? Hi All, I have approximately 20 kids books I am looking to pass along to someone for scanning. I am moving soon, and just can't take them all with me. I like scanning kids books, but there are more than I will get to doing anytime soon, and I just don't have the space for them either. They are all oldish books, but in good scannable condition. Most of them are chapter books, maybe a half dozen that are shorter. There is a variety of types. After scanning, they can be donated or kept. If anyone would like to take these on, I'd love to see it happen. I will mail them off to you where ever you live. I only ask that one person agree to take all of them so I don't have to make multiple trips to the post office with multiple boxes. Sorry if that sounds picky, but I'm moving in the next week. I know that many of you scan a lot though and are always looking for new stuff to work on. I thought of donating to school libraries or the salvation army. The problem is that, donating to those type places does not benefit blind kids. I want our kids to be able to access more books, to enjoy some I read and liked as a kid. I've already donated a bunch to the salvation army already anyway, it just recently occurred to me to consider passing these along to scanner people for Bookshare instead. Let me know what you think guys, okay? I'd love to see these get out there in our collection! Respond on list or email alwaysallie@xxxxxxxxxxxx Best, Allison H.
