I definitely have to agree with Guido's advice to stay away from the Epson
1670. I can attest to its molasses like performance. It was so slow that I only
used it when absolutely necessary. It broke down within less than a year, but
not from excessive use. I now have an Epson 2400 and I love it.

Julie, for example, I have found the following refurbished scanners on the
Epson site that are worth looking at:

Epson 4180 $149 (regular $499). Duty cycle 36000 scans. This has the
steepest discount and is the most heavy duty. Can use a doc feeder.

Epson 3170 refurb: $124 (list 179). Duty cycle 30000 scans. Probably the
fastest of the 3 by a small margin. Can use a doc feeder.

Epson 2400 refurb: $75 (current list is $119, but when the device was
current it costed approx $300). Duty cycle 30000 scans. I tried it: it's a
real beauty! No doc feeder.

Bottom line, you can't go wrong with any of the above.
Stay away from Epson 1670, 2480, 2580, they are very slow and duty cycle is
only 10000 scans. Other Epson scanners from Epson refurb are more expensive.

Julie, what is your budget for a scanner? Meaningful Answers depend on
quantifiable budget.

Hi, all. OK, my scanner finally bit the dust. I knew it was coming, but...oh,
well. Anyway, I really want the Epson Perfection 3170, but it's just a little
out of my price range right now, and I need a scanner. *smile* Does anyone else
have any good suggestions that might be a little cheaper? Thanks, and take
care.
