Usually if I hit that (the key between alt and control on the right side of my laptop keyboard), it gives choices pertinent to the table. You can delete it, for example. I'm not sure if it lets you turn it to text, though. I don't have 2010--I have 2007, but this is how I work with tables to insert and delete lines or cells.
