was younger and wishing some of those books were available to me...back

I was just watching Reading Rainbow (kids show on PBS about books) with my
daughter, and I got thinking:
Is there any organized effort to get all those Reading Rainbow books as such
accessible? when a kid wants to read one of them, can s/he know that
they'll be in the NLS collection or on bookshare? I haven't done any kind
of organized investigating. I know some of those books are classics; I
don't think very many of them are really new. They seem to be aimed at kids
from perhaps six to preteen. It sure gives kids a bad message about reading
if they want to read a book and get told they have to wait an unspecified
amount of time before they can.
If there's no organized effort afoot just now, I'd be glad to get it at
least started by checking out the Reading Rainbow site and seeing how many
of the books there are available. Maybe, then, we could split up the
scanning and validating of the necesary books so that they're all on there
and set up a plan for adding new ones as Reading Rainbow covers them. this
sounds like something I could get a gang of students to do next summer
actually. In the meantime, ... thoughts?
