I think it is probably nonfiction. Remember "A Million Little Pieces?" That
book was found out to have a lot of things in it that were just made up. In
fact, it was a fraud. However, it was still published in subsequent editions
as nonfiction. I think the question arises from a failure to understand that
fiction and falsehood are not the same thing. If that was the case the
entire occult and spiritual categories would be fiction. Ask yourself if the
narrative was intended primarily to entertain with a story, a story with a
plot and story-like narrative. Did the author intend the book to be taken as
fiction or nonfiction? Is it intended to be informative -- however much it
may fall short of that -- or just entertaining? Mainly, it comes down to
what the author intended.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Qustion on appropriate category
I know we're supposed to put all books in the literature/fiction or
nonfiction category, along with the specific categories. I have scanned a
book and will be submitting it soon. I believed it to be nonfiction when I
began scanning, however, the following statement appears at the beginning
of the book, and I'm now thinking it should be in the literature/fiction
section. What do you all think?
This book is inspired by true events as lived by the author. Historical
accuracy was considered in its writing, but where records lack, creative
license was used.
Thanks,
