I am currently proofreading The Book of Lights by Chaim Potok. All the print page numbers, if they were ever there, have been stripped. Between computer pages 170 and 171, the dialog between two men changes direction with no warning or comment, although there is no positive indication that any pages are missing, since the first page ends a sentence and the next one starts one. However, although it sometimes happens that way, the reply is certainly a change of subject to the subject under discussion, and since there is no reaction to the change of subject, I wonder if something could be missing. Should I reject the book on suspicion, or could the original scanner help me by telling me where the numbered pages start, so I could figure out the book pages that could be missing?
