How do you fix that Monica? I didn't know about that until you brought it up. I'd definitely like to fix extra punctuation in my scans.

Best,
Allison

Hi, Kellie. I would say that the manual doesn't really deal with validation very well. It's great for tips on scanning, but it doesn't really go into how validation is actually done. I figured that there was a reason for that that I just don't know about. I think the best way to say it is that the manual seems to assume that validaters know more than we do when we start working. For example, it's not obvious to speech users that most scans have extra punctuation in odd places that they can easily remove with a find and replace. Most people have their punctuation set to some or even none, and they don't know that this is even an issue. Yet this punctuation is annoying and distracting for Braille users. I didn't know about this issue for over a year of validating until Sue brought it to my attention. I suppose that fixing this issue in scans goes beyond the bare minimum for a validation. I would have wanted to know about it though because I want readers to find my work easy to read. It's a quick thing to fix, and it makes the Braille read better. Do you see what I'm getting at?
