Hi Kim,

The only copy of the file that contains all of your edits is the one on your
computer. If you download the file from bookshare again, you'll be
downloading the original, unedited file again. If you want to work on your
edited file, but don't want to make changes that you won't have to worry
about messing up what you've already done, you can do this.

Open your edited file.
Hit the alt key to open the menus.
You will be in the file menu.
Down arrow to "save as".
Now your file name shows up.
Alter it in some way that you'll understand is going to denote a file that
you intend to play with. For example, if your book is entitled "Jack and
Jill". With the file extension rtf after it, simply change the file name in
the edit box that you're sitting in to something like this "Jack and Jill
For experimenting". Also with the rtf extension on it.
Now, tab to the "ok" button and hit enter.
Close word, to be absolutely certain that you're not working in the file
that you want to save.
Go to the place on your computer where the two files are saved and open
your experimentation file and mess about all you like.
Once you've solved your problems, you can either save the changes in that
file or not, and then open the original edited file that you didn't want to
mess up and make the changes that caused the fix that you wanted and make
those changes in that file just as you made them in your experimental file
and save the file by pressing control plus s.

On the topic of your question about a page break that is present where you
don't want it. You didn't answer Debby's question as to when you arrow past
said page break. She asked whether your screen reader announces "page
break" or just the number of the page you're going to. If the latter is
what is happening, it's a safe guess that the page break that you have and
think you don't want is a soft page break. That is, a page break inserted
by Word because your page length isn't allowing your entire text of the page
to fit on one page. To solve this, simply increase the length of page in the
page set-up dialogue under the file menu. This should make the unwanted
page break disappear if it is indeed a soft page break.

Sorry, I know that all of this seems complicated and drawn out. And I know
how frustrating it can feel when new tasks come along to be learned. I feel
your pain. We've all been there.

Good luck, and let us know what you try and when you get the results that
you want, how you achieve them. We'll cheer along with you once you jump
this hurdle.

Good luck!

Mayrie

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Proofread file

Where do I go in the volunteer section to look at the proofread file I
turned in? I want to look at it and get understanding of editing it,
particularly of this pagination thing. I have the file I worked with and I
really don't want to make a copy of the scan and proofread the whole darned
thing over again as I spent nearly a month on it. Do I go to my checked out
books? No. I did go there and it's not there. If I download my book again,
will it be that scan or what I did? Thanks for the help. Maybe I shouldn't
feel frustrated but I am feeling beset. I'm afraid of messing up my
proofread file irretrievably. Regards, Kim. P.S.: No, I don't intend to
scream or kick my feet on the floor. I'm too old for that sort of thing even
though there's a little brat screaming for all she is worth inside my head.
K.
