I caught the same news story. His wife reads sports articles to him, but
she does not accompany him in the broadcast booth. He does have a partner
there, but that partner can't overtly help him while they are on the air.

                                                                  "Can a
nation be free if it oppresses other nations? It cannot." Vladimir Lenin

My husband heard on the CBS news last night about a blind sports caster in
Florida who calls the baseball games, though he's never seen one. I think he
may get some help when necessary from his wife who accompanies him in the
booth, if necessasry, apparently he hears the sound of the bat and I don't
know
what else, maybe the ump call "out" or "safe" or --could he hear the thump
of a ball being caught in a glove?  I don't suppose he's any of you. The
only
ones of you I know who lives in Florida are AMy and someone who moved there
a while back.

I loved those and the Bobbsey Twins books, as well ad the Nancy Drew
series.

There was an item in the news a long time ago about a woman who was locked
in a car trunk (I think she'd been kidnapped but maybe it was accidental and
she escaped because of what she'd read when Nancy Drew was in a similar
situation and show she got  out

Isn't that the truth? I am adding them for the next generation, but
truthfully, I am enjoying them as much as I did as a young girl myself. I had a
voracious
appetite for reading, and the Cherry Ames books in particular were a
favorite. I think I read virtually all of the Nancy Drew books, as well as a
good
chunk of the Hardy boys, and then I moved on to Agatha Christie. I read
very little these days, so the pleasure of reading childhood favorites and
adding
to the collection so others might enjoy has been a really nice reprieve
from my normal daily duties.

By the way, I use speech recognition software and I am a beta tester on the
Mac side as well as a user on the PC side, so if you ever see funky words
that
don't make sense, it means I did a terrible job of proofreading my own
e-mail. Unfortunately I usually miss at least one in every message, that's the
problem
when it gets so good that you barely check what was typed. Smiles

Happy reading everyone!
Valerie
