[bksvol-discuss] Re: OT Pots

Considerations like how the pots conduct heat and the shape of knife handles and such may be valid considerations, but I would not know how to judge them. I can only say that thrift store cookware has always worked perfectly well for me and it is way cheaper too.

Hi, Roger, have you ever been to a restaurant supply house? I liked cookware
stores. I remember visiting Williams-Sonoma. It's amazing what is there. I
remember a metal container where you could put olive oil and it had a pour
spout. I also liked those little metal sauce whisks. One thing I can tell
you is that chefs will spend money on utensils and cookware because cheap
stuff may not always be of good quality. I suppose what you want is
functionality, durability, and ease of use. I've heard it said that chefs
will spend a lot of money, for instance, on knives. Are they comfortable
when held in the hand? Are they light or heavy enough for the purpose?
Another consideration for cookware is how you wish heat to be conducted. I
remember reading about that in Julia Child's book The Way to Cook. Regards,
Kim.

Frankly, on the very occasional times I need a pot or pan a thrift store
will do. The cookware is for being used, not to match, look pretty or
impress anyone.

Hi all,

Original message:
$2000 for pots and pans? What are they made of? Solid gold? That's
ridiculous. I don't disbelieve what you say, it's just mind-boggling that
cookware should cost that much.

Wow, you're right about that. Guess I'll have to stick with my old
standby aluminum pots and pans. Hey, the food's not bad. If it cooks
don't fix it. Besides, solid gold cookware would spoil real fast. The
melting temperature of gold is quite low, and solid gold is kinda soft so
if you used a spatula or spoon on 'em, you'd get scratches and dings.
Nope, solid gold cookware isn't for me. <smiling>
