When I was a kid, the school district I went to received the blind kids from
several cities around us. I seem to think there ere eight of us, but I only
remember seven names. That was many moons ago, though, so maybe I'm heading
for senility at 38?
And I've been around a little. I proofread two books and submitted them,
but mostly I'm a shameless downloader of my quota every month. I may never
read all those books, but my Braille Lite, my SanDisk card and I are
prepared for reading wherever we are.

-No forgiveness necessary. It's always interesting, at least to me, to learn the different experiences people have growing up and how the schools treat children with different disabilities.
It sounds as if you had quite a few blind children in the schools you attended. When I brought up mainstreaming initially, I was thinking of those with mental disabilities, which is what we had in the middle school where I worked. Putting them in regular classes despite their readiness, or lack thereof, seemed to me a dis-service. We did have a couple of deaf students, and some physically disabled, who were mainstreamed and, because their mentail faculties were not impaired, did well. We didn't have any blind students in any of the schools my children attended. I'm not sure way--just coincidence I suppose.

Forgive the ramble.
