-No forgiveness necessary. It's always interesting, at
least to me, to learn the different experiences people
have growing up and how the schools treat children
with different disabilities.
It sounds as if you had quite a few blind children in
the schools you attended. When I brought up
mainstreaming initially, I was thinking of those with
mental disabilities, which is what we had in the
middle school where I worked. Putting them in regular
classes despite their readiness, or lack thereof,
seemed to me a dis-service. We did have a couple of
deaf students, and some physically disabled, who were
mainstreamed and, because their mentail faculties were
not impaired, did well. We didn't have any blind
students in any of the schools my children attended.
I'm not sure way--just coincidence I suppose.
