No, I don't mean that I have never used the FS reader because I don't know how to use it. Actually, I don't, but that is because I have never tried it. The reason I have never used it is because I prefer not to be tied to my computer when I read a book and I have a portable device for that. I was mentioning that because this Kindle software would have the same effect and that is a disadvantage of it.

There is the RFB&D ReadHear software which reads Daisy books but not from bookshare so I found out as is it was a trial and error thing, but I use FSReader too, if you want me to help you Roger, feel free to email me, it is easy to use I won't be too technical either, smiley!--"To me, music that breaks your heart is the music that stays with you forever. I already have a Daisy reader included in my JAWS software that I have never used. It is that part about having to read it on your computer that gets to me. I have a lot of things to do on my computer that I can't do away from it. When I am ready to relax and do some reading I want to step away from the computer and take a portable device to an easy chair or bed or on the road. As for reading a book as soon as it is published, well, there are more books that have been published a long time that I really want to read, but cannot possibly live long enough to actually get around to them that I can easily wait for most any newly published book. For that same reason, if a book that is not newly published and is not in accessible format I can easily wait for it to become accessible too for the most part. On the other hand, there are certain books that I placed on the Bookshare wish list that are either too expensive for me to acquire or are too complex for me to want to tackle scanning and that no one else seems to be interested in that makes this thing tempting if they are available in Kindle format. I have not actually checked on that. That is something I will have to get around to checking in the process of my mulling. In the meantime any of you who do try it be sure to report your experiences here. I might go for it, just not quite yet._ _ _"Everything must justify its existence before the judgment seat of Reason, or give up existence." - Friedrich EngelsFollow me on Twitter: http://twitter.com/rogerbailey81 The Militant: http://www.themilitant.com Pathfinder Press: http://www.pathfinderpress.com Granma International: http://www.granma.cu/ingles/index.html----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann Petrous" <annpetrous@xxxxxxxxx>To: <bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2011 10:07 PMSubject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: OT: Fwd: Introducing Free Kindle Software with Accessibility FeaturesThat is stupid. Will this software read books from sources other than Amazon?Would it be possible to install it on a mobile device such as the Victor Reader Stream? Even if the software is free it sounds to me like it is away to convince us to spen money on books that we are likely to alreadyhave access to by other means and better access too. I purchased a Kindle book and was able to read it without difficulty. The software uses its own TTS speech engine to read books you purchase, whichexplains its over 200 megabyte download. So far the only thing I find annoying is difficulty in utilizing the search function for quickly moving to a phrase in a book, not being able to navigate through thetable of contents, and only being able to read one page at a time rather than read continuously. Of course, perhaps reading the manual will shed light on how to do this. As a consumer, my only real complaint with the Kindle, and most ebook platforms for that matter, is being limited to a proprietary format, as I would like to read lawfully purchased ebooks onwhatever device and whatever medium I choose, be it PC, iPhone, or Braille notetaker. However, it's encouraging to see that ebooks whichincorporate digital rights management schemes can indeed be accessed withspeech. Hopefully other ebook manufacturers such as NFB Technologies andGoogle are taking notice. But what's up with the help! It took me to the Kindle Store. I wanted more information about reading keys, and couldn't find it. Also, thatreading voice really is useful only in a pintch. Any nonstandard Englishword causes it to stumble. -- "To me, music that breaks your heart is the music that stays with you forever.
