Hi Jane,
Unfortunately, there's no way to access kurzweil files without Kurzweil.
However, as an Openbook user, you have access to validating .arc files. This
is a great service to the Bookshare community because there are actually
fewer Openbook users than Kurzweil users. A few Openbook users have taken on
validating .arc books as their mission because of this. So if any of the arc
files on the step 1 page interest you, you can get an extra boost from
knowing that by validating them you are doing the Bookshare community a big
favor. <grin>
You're right that everyone should make an effort to submit in rtf since this
is the most universally accessible format that maintains necessary
formatting.
