Lissi, Jamie, et al,

We saw slightly more than 5,000 books added in 2006. We hit the 25,000 mark sometime in December last year and at the new year we were looking at 25,200-25,400 or so. As of earlier today there are 30,575 books.

Since the BSO books are not reflected in the overall number the difference is not totally accurate. Also keep in mind that we had several hundred Spanish books added from electronic sources.

All that said and done we did a great job, but unless we see lots more stuff coming directly from publishers the 10,000 goal will be quite out of range--remembering that the last two years we've averaged 100 books a week, not the nearly 200 that would be required.

Best,
Jake

Dear Booksharians,

10,000 new books is a huge stretch from my perspective since my personal goal is to validate 52 books in a year

I'm hoping we'll learn exactly how many books were added in 2006. Then my goal would be to top that number by at least one in 2007. I'm also keeping in mind that the BSOs probably don't count though they improve the overall quality of the collection and improve Bookshare's reputation for reliability. I've noticed some volunteers this year who, when they download a book and encounter many errors, take the trouble to get a print copy of the copy and submit and BSO rescan.

So, these are my goals, for bookshare, the 2006 total plus at least one, and for me 52 validations plus at least one.

And what about 10,000? Why not? If we achieve 10,000 then we are truly a considerable force in the world of books.Numbers aside, every single book added is precious.

Always with love,

Lissi

I agree 10,000 books in 2007 is a stretch but I'll bet
we come close.

Maybe I need to get scanning!
