John Dos Passos is being listed as
Passos, John dos.
aand things published by a society are listed with society as the last name as in
society, the Jewish.

For those who wonder what was keeping E. so quiet it was a computer crash last sunday morning. Just got the machine back last night. A braillenote crash and a computer crash all in one month certainly has caused some mental techie breakdown strain here lately. (grin) Glad to be back. I have been able to read email but not write any. So you folks were in luck for a few days (grin) treated to a bit of silence from me.

If it's messing up authors' names, this definitely needs to be reported. Some authors write with different variations of their names like Angela Hunt and Angela Elwell Hunt.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: New Bookshare site grumblings

I found today when doing a search for Harry Kraus
that just 2 hits came up for 2 books
when doing a search for kraus the other books in the system came up on the search.

the name was
Harry Lee kraus Jr.
So it doesn't find all books with Harry and Kraus if you do a search unless you just search by last name.
Strange.

Misha, I feel the same way you do about the lack of comfirmation when uploading a book and about the lack of renewal notices. From what Pavi has said earlier this week, I think the engineers are aware that these things aren't running smoothly. I expect to see some sort of feature repair/enhancement release in a couple of weeks to a month. I'm not on the staff, so this is just a guess from observing how the beta cycle went. I haven't run into the strict search scheme yet, probably because I tend to search for one word or by an author's last name most of the time. It would be frustrating to put in two words in a title and not get any results. Have you written to Bookshare about this? They may not address it right away since there are other issues to fix first, but they might appreciate the feedback for their work down the road.
