Hi all,

Smart quotes are quotes whose symbols have no equivalent in braille. They are
made so that you get both opening and closing quotations. They do not
translate properly into braille. I believe they give some weird symbol. So,
unless it's a real problem, smart quotes should be changed to straight quotes.
This is not to be confused with the single quotes commonly used by British
publishers. Those are OK, but the Smart Quotes are a computer aboration.

Somebody asked about Smart Tags. These are a way in Word to distinguish Names
and addresses from other words. I haven't quite figured out their purpose, but
just ignore the messages about them. It does something to the printed text.
