I'm sure you're doing just fine and don't need to give up. <smile> Everyone
has there little pet peeves and their own way of validating. If you're doing
thorough editing that's great and very valuable and adds to the overall
quality of the collection. If you know a book is complete there is no reason
to worry much about page numbers.
