Hey Grandma,
Those books you cannot get or ones your library does not have might be
available from someone on list who cannot scan or has not thought to so toss
out the names and see if someone [s] catch them. I just sent off 10 books
to willing scanners and will try to validate some but it I take to long I
will up load or tell the scanner to upload so someone else can validate
them. As for that, I am looking for any and all Faulkner [I prefer Random
House editions but will take what I can get] which are not already in the
Bookshare collection or which ones are less than excellent. I will gladly
return any loaned volumes but I already have the books so won't need them to
validate. My copies are not good for scanning as they are annoted in
multiple colors as well as highlighters and even, in some books, on the
blank pages.
Once I validate the books I have now on loan I will happily donate the books
for trade to people who can aquire good books that way.Amy

Jamie,
I guess I didn't make myself clear. The book is in the
reference section and doesn't circulate. It strikes me
as a little strange, especially in a city as large as
Los Angeles. It's nice that old books are preserved,
but not many people can go down to the central library
and read them. In addition to the Swann book, there
have been some fiction books that I would dearly have
loved to obtain, but the only copy available at any of
my three lbrary systems was in reference. In San Diego
Public Library system has books in storage, but I get
the feeling that one can request them, although I've
never tried.
