Hi all,

An excellent post, Kim. One thing I noticed in your post that I wanted to comment on. It's a small thing, but you say you don't want to ruin the submitter's copy. Why do that anyway? I always make a copy of the book before I begin proofing. That way, if I do something odd like replacing all the commas with ampersands I can fix it and know that I'm working with my own copy rather than the original submitter's copy. Also, if you really, really muck up your copy, all you need to do is copy the original file again after you delete your munged copy. Since these files are zipped, I tend to keep the zipped file till after I'm done proofing. Then, I delete it; keeping my proofed copy. It just makes life a whole lot easier and you don't have to worry about making mistakes. Just save the original file under a different name, and voila, you've got your working copy. Just a tip from a working proofer. <smiling> My word, I checked my stats yesterday, and I can't believe it. I just renewed at the beginning of August, and the numbers say I've got $18.00 in credits. That's amazing!

BTW, for Gwen who was going to give up, don't. You'll get it right. We're behind you. Keep trekkin'.

Ann P.
