Hi, Lynne, Kim here. I understand what you mean, but I have also talked to Solsticesinger, and she wonders why she should go through all the trouble of scanning and/or proofreading a book, only to have it replaced by something that may not necessarily be of as good a quality. Just because something is marked as publisher quality doesn't guarantee it will be of sterling quality. Forgive me for playing devil's advocate with you, but I think it is wise to not assume that publishers are all that scrupulous about their text files. Are any of them cleaning up their typographical errors and are books really being edited? Think about this now. Do you really want your hard work to be set aside, especially if it is marked as being of excellent quality where you have slaved your heart out making sure everything looks good and lacks errors? I could understand you not minding if the scanning was of fair or good quality. You'd want only the best quality you can get so the books would be a pleasure to read. Now I've ranted enough, so happy scanning and proofreading you all, Kim aka Ellinder. _____ From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lynn I Sent: Monday, July 20, 2009 5:47 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: If You See Duplicates I really don't mind my work being replaced with a PQ book. Maybe I'm strange, but what is important to me as that I get to read the book. Whether I scanned it or proofread it, I was able to read it. *smile* Blessings. I'm not sure how perfect rtthe PQ copies were then. Have any of you downloaded one of each and compared them? Maybe it's now a bad thing to have more than one copie of a title in the collection. YOU can read whichever is better. Except that apparently part of the del with the publishers, at leasst some of them, was thatr the bopy that was not theirs would be deleted from the collection. My proofread copy of Delinsky's The Passions of Chelsea Kane is still in the collection, but my proofread copy of A Womanm Betrayed has been replaced by a PQ copy. Too bad they aren't the same titles so someone could see ow the PQ copy compares. Unfortunately, I can't remember what other of my work might have been replaced, except probably some of the Princess Diaries. We had to do those becuse the PQ copies weren't going to be available in time. I would like to know from some of you if the PQ editions are indeed perfect. I checked a few other books I remember proofreading but there aren't any PQ versions of them in the collection (except there is a PQ version of The Princess Diaries Diaries (vol. 1)I know it's a good thing for bookshare to have books from the publishers but when one has worked carefully on a book, especially if it was a long one or needed a lot of work , one hates to see one's work be thrown out. smile Cindy Wish List (i.e., books wanted added to the collection) and books-being-scanned list available at sites below Wish List: https://wiki.benetech.org/display/BSO/Bookshare+Wish+List Books Being Scanned List: https://wiki.benetech.org/display/BSO/Books+Being+Scanned+List --- On Mon, 7/20/09, Lynn I <lynnskyi@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: Lynn I <lynnskyi@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: If You See Duplicates To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Monday, July 20, 2009, 7:21 AM That's a very good question. I'm finding more and more duplicate books in the collection. One is usually a publisher quality copy and the other is a copy submitted by a volunteer. Blessings.
