[bksvol-discuss] Re: How many words are 200?

You misunderstood me. I was not complaining about a 200 word cap. I was complaining because the total was under 50 when I was told it was too long. A cap at 50 would take a Basho and would not communicate the necessary information. Cannot the people who look at the submission forms count?

Dear Amy and Booksharian Friends,

At first it was a frustrating struggle for me to write a clear, somewhat enticing, description of a book within the 200 character limit for short synopses.

Amy, as an English scholar, you may identify with how the 200 character cap evolved from a source of frustration to a cause for inspiration. I'm no poet, but when I seriously work at writing a poem, part of the challenge is expressing myself within the constraints of the form I choose. For example, look how much can be communicated in a Haiku of so few syllables. I'm inspired by the 200 character limit to make every letter of every word count. I have fun when I have to find shorter synonyms or more concise phrases to say the same thing with fewer characters. For a wordy person like me, the necessity to confine my synopsis to 200 characters is great practice and the task is elevated because I'm in the pleasant mind set of writing a poem.

Amy, you've been admirably persistent getting all of your software synchronized so that you can scan and validate. You've become more productive and you're not afraid to tackle challenging scans. You're sending us some fascinating special interest books.

Always with love,

Lissi

short description under 200 charters not words

The last three books I submitted were kicked back because my short description - you know, the one that has to be under 200 words, were too long. Each description was under 100 to begin and the last 2 that were rejected were under 40. I finally got it down to 25 but really now! I think they want something else and we need a better description of what short is.
