Here are the ingredients for the two recipes at the
back of the book.

Perilee's Wartime Spice Cake

1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed.
1 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup shortening or lard
2/3 cup raisins
1/2 teaspoons eaach ground cloves and nutmeg
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder


Hattie's Lighter-than-Lead Biscuits

3/4 cup cooked oatmeal
1 1/2 cups wheat or rye flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons lard, shortenhing or butter
1/4 cup milk
